Rehabilitation - A basic program

Mälargården has a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and nursing staff, physiotherapists, rehabilitation assistants and psychologists who, together with the guest, elaborate an active rehabilitation programme.

Staff is on location 24 hours a day in order to serve our guests.

On arrival
On arrival the physiotherapist discusses your disease history and problems. The
physiotherapist maps joint- and muscle functional status, mobility, general symptoms, posture and gait, balance, respiratory status and neurological functions.

Our support
With the support of our professional staff you establish the goals for your rehabilitation. We consider it of the utmost importance that you gain increased knowledge and understanding of your situation and your problems and that you are provided with professional support.

The training
The training is based on your own capabilities and the physiotherapist helps
you to adapt the training programs to meet your needs.

There are several training and treatment modalities:
- Pain relief, increased circulation, lowering of muscular tension through TENS (transcutanic electric nerve stimulation), interference, acupuncture, soft tissue manipulation, heat therapy and relaxation techniques
- Adapted active and passive mobilization
- Muscular stabilization
- Improved circulation and general condition by cycling or walking
- Training of balance control
- Training of leg- and abdominal muscles

Education
The education is targeted towards your specific problems. This gives an increased theoretical understanding of how your body works and the limitations you experience in mobility. The objective is managing your problems in a more effective way and thus increasing your possibility of control.

Pool training
The body is lighter in water, movements are easier to perform and thus you train your body more actively. Training in warm water also relieves pain.

The pool training is based on individual as well as group training, specifically adapted to your individual needs. Group training takes place every day. The individual training may be performed every day, but this is adapted to meet your own needs.

We have group training to music every day. This is pleasurable, relaxing training where music inspires you to put further emphasis on pursuing your training needs. We focus on posture and stability training and movements that are easy on your body.

Physiotherapy in a group
This training is done on a mat or in a chair where emphasis is on mobility, stability, circulation and muscular endurance.

Relaxation (reduction of muscular tension)
Twice a week we have the possibility of learning different techniques for relaxation. The purpose is to increase awareness of tension patterns, increase body awareness and to learn techniques for relaxation.

Occupational therapy
On arrival you and the occupational therapist discuss your history and present problems. The occupational therapist evaluates, in discussion with you, how to best use your resources and how to sustain and further develop your capabilities.

The objective of occupational therapy is to increase functional capability after disease or injury.
